Responsibilities

The Quality & Systems Improvement Director is held accountable for oversight and implementation of American Heart Association’s cardiovascular and stroke quality improvement initiatives and programs including, but not limited to, Get With The Guidelines ®

The American Heart Association has an immediate opening for a Quality & Systems Improvement Director in North Carolina (based in either Charlotte, NC or Greensboro, NC.

About Get with the Guidelines:

Get With The Guidelines (GWTG) is the American Heart Association’s hospital-based quality improvement. It empowers healthcare provider teams to consistently treat heart and stroke patients according to the most up-to-date guidelines, ensuring the highest quality care for atrial fibrillation, cardiac arrest, coronary artery disease, heart failure, and stroke patients.

In this position, a clinical expert has the opportunity to further impact patient outcomes with this life saving program. Primary responsibilities include identifying and leveraging opportunities and methods for improving clinical performance through process improvements, workflow redesign, and care management through the development and cultivation of collaborative relationships with hospital leaders and staff. Further, this position serves as a resource by demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the benefits of the program and the ability to surmount barriers through a consultative, value-added approach.

Key Responsibilities :

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Identifying, cultivating and maintaining key market stakeholder relationships in defined market to achieve program goals.

  • Educating, developing and maintaining strong relationships with healthcare providers and their staff, to align our quality programs with their initiatives.

  • Coordinating and conducting Get With The Guidelines account management activities for assigned hospitals in market including implementation and quality improvement consulting.

  • Selling and implementing the programs including the Get With The Guidelines – Atrial Fibrillation, CAD, Heart Failure, Resuscitation, and Stroke Patient Management Tools.

  • Providing hospital training sessions for Patient Management Tool (PMT) data entry and PMT data reporting as needed.

  • Serving as an educator and quality improvement advisor, using a consultative approach to work collaboratively with hospitals to progress within the quality improvement continuum.

  • Responsible for any accredited and non-accredited workshops in assigned market and contributing to affiliate wide educational opportunities.

  • Collaborating with appropriate affiliate staff and volunteers to leverage opportunities and provide seamless customer relationship management.

  • Partnering with state health departments, quality improvement organizations, health plans and other agencies to ensure that our quality improvement initiatives are key priorities within their organizations

  • Promoting adoption of Target: BP and other AHA initiatives in clinical and hospital settings.

  • Leading customer relationship management, troubleshooting, and follow-up in assigned territory.

  • Representing as a subject matter expert (Stroke, AFib, Resuscitation, Heart Failure, Coronary Artery Disease) for the regional quality improvement team as defined by the Vice-President.

  • Executing of all necessary pre-work activities required to launch all future GWTG modules in a market.

  • Assisting hospitals in preparation for disease specific certification (Primary Stroke Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, Thrombectomy Capable Center, Acute Stroke Ready Hospital, Comprehensive Cardiac Center, Primary Heart Attack Center, Acute Heart Attack Ready)

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Clinical knowledge and experience that demonstrates the ability to execute local and regional strategies based on affiliate and national priorities, managing multiple projects, and cultivating relationships with key stakeholders and program implementers.

  • Demonstrated understanding of patient care and/or clinical quality or process improvement management in an acute care hospital.

  • Clinical knowledge of cardiovascular disease and/or stroke treatment and metrics desired.

  • Knowledge of the operating methods and ethics of voluntary, non-profit organizations and health care delivery system professionals.

  • Ability to understand and communicate clinical terminology.

  • Ability to understand, interpret and communicate data and data relationships in a healthcare environment.

  • Ability to independently organize and prepare data for reports and presentations.

  • Ability to organize and successfully prioritize work to meet deadlines with close attention to details.

  • Ability to plan and conduct meetings and trainings.

  • Ability to travel within the affiliate territory and travel outside the territory to attend training sessions and related activities related to professional programs. This may require overnight stays and/or weekends. Percentage of travel up to 50% predominately within the assigned market with periodic overnight stays.

  • Valid driver’s license, proof of at least minimum state required automobile liability insurance and ability and willingness to travel as position demands.

  • Satisfactory background checks including consumer credit, motor vehicle, and criminal history

Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in nursing, healthcare administration, public health, or other health/science related field or equivalent experience is required; Master’s degree in nursing, healthcare administration or equivalent is preferred.

2+ years of experience in healthcare, clinical, medical, public health, or quality improvement experience with demonstrated understanding of patient care and/or clinical quality or process improvement management in an acute care hospital.
